Moderator Spotlight: Dr. Claudia Wege
Join us this April with Dr. Claudia Wege of Volvo who will be moderating her session on:
Driver Distraction in Autonomous Driving
Automation and self-driving vehicles have to be adapted to the society, to the infrastructure, to other road users and of course to commercial drivers’/operators’ needs and requirements. Compared to passenger-car drivers, truck drivers possibly need to be assisted with other IWI-strategies (information, warning, intervention). In connection to that, driver behavior likely changes when vehicles drive automated. The experience when interacting with secondary tasks in these situations is unknown. How will automated driving effect what secondary tasks truck drivers engaging in? The presentation shows how secondary tasks (such as texting while driving) should be designed to give an efficient, safe and enjoyable interaction. Insights in how to evaluate HMI in assisted driving scenarios are given. It is explained how various usability principles influence Volvos mission to integrate Human factors as a central part in the development of driver-vehicle automation systems.
